If you’d like to talk to us about a project, or anything else, we’d love to hear from you.

ASBESTOS INSULATION BOARD

Asbestos is a highly toxic mineral that can cause serious illness when inhaled.  If you have insulation board in your house, it’s very important to get it tested before having the asbestos removed.

What is insulation board made from?

Asbestos insulation board is a material that was used to insulate buildings.  This material was typically made from amosite & chrysotile. Asbestos insulation board was commonly found in commercial buildings, private dwellings, aswell as sheds, garages and other areas.

This type of asbestos product has been linked to serious health problems such as mesothelioma cancer (cancer of the lungs) and this product is now banned.  Please always remember the negative effects of asbestos are usually seen decades after exposure.

How can I find out if my insulation board contains asbestos?

To find out if your insulation board contains asbestos, you can contact us as we are a Licensed Asbestos testing company.  If you suspect your insulation board contains asbestos, then Strada can test it for its type and density.

Can I remove the insulation board myself?

The best option is to hire Strada Environmental Ltd to remove the material.  We will be able to determine if it contains asbestos, ensure it is removed and disposed of properly.

If you choose to remove the material yourself, you should be aware that this could expose you and your family members to hazardous levels of asbestos fibres.

Do I need to use a licensed asbestos removal contractor?

Asbestos insulation board is 14 days notifiable to the HSE and can only be removed by a Licensed Asbestos Removal Contractor (LARC).

The removal processes, control measures and equipment required are decided by the type of asbestos and its condition. If you choose to hire another contractor, make sure they are licensed contractors, via the HSE website.  LARC’s must follow all strict legislation regarding asbestos removal.

You should have this material tested for asbestos and removed before it becomes airborne.

Asbestos is a known carcinogen, and asbestos insulation board can become airborne when it's disturbed or in poor condition.  If you find asbestos insulation board in your home, hire Strada Environmental Ltd to remove it.
